Harley-Davidson founder’s Scottish home in danger of demolition
According to a report in the UK’s Express, a group of bikers is rallying to save the historic Scottish home of the Davidson family from demolition.
Netherton Cottage is located a few miles from Brechin in Scotland. It was the 19th-century home of the Davidson family before they emigrated to the USA and started the now iconic Harley-Davidson brand with William Harley.
The Davidson Legacy Preservation Group is trying to raise $91,000 (£70,000) by November to secure the home’s future and maintain it as a historical attraction for visitors and motorcycle enthusiasts worldwide.
The home was put on the market in 2021 by its current owners, but the group worried that the property could be demolished to make way for new homes in the area.
A group member told the newspaper they couldn’t let the property be bulldozed for new housing and wanted to preserve the nearly 300-year-old home instead. The group got together with others to make it community-owned but still needed to raise more funding. The group aims to transform the cottage into a community hub.
A GoFundMe page was set up on the group’s Facebook page. In the first week, it reached more than 25,000, but it only raised £20,000 from biker enthusiasts and the community.
The group aims to transform the cottage into a community hub for Harley-Davidson enthusiasts and the surrounding area by offering educational programs, workshops, and events celebrating local culture and heritage.
