The MotoAmerica Parts Unlimited Talent Cup By Motul delivered a pair of nail-biting races at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, where Warhorse Ducati/American Racing’s Alessandro Di Mario and Tytlers Cycle Racing’s Hank Vossberg each claimed a win during the high-profile Vintage Motorcycle Days weekend.

Held in conjunction with AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days — one of the largest celebrations of motorcycling heritage in the country — the Talent Cup races added a thrilling modern contrast to a weekend that also featured swap meets, demo rides, vintage racing, and historic bike displays. The event drew thousands of fans, blending the sport’s rich history with its promising future.

Race One: Di Mario makes it count

On Saturday, Di Mario took the checkered flag by just 0.050 seconds after a strategic final-lap draft past Vossberg. Although he didn’t lead most of the 10-lap race, Di Mario led when it mattered. Seven riders crossed the line within a single second, highlighting the depth of competition.

CTR/D&D Cycles’ Bodie Paige, despite gearing issues, finished third just 0.250 seconds back. Yamaha’s Sam Drane, MP13 Racing’s Ella Dreher, Carson King, and Kody Kopp rounded out the lead pack in a frantic dash to the line.

“It just worked out perfectly,” says Di Mario. “I didn’t have the pace, but I had a plan for the last lap.”

Race Two: Vossberg wins after red flag review

Sunday’s race saw Vossberg and Paige break away from the field, engaging in a thrilling duel more than 10 seconds ahead of third place. On-track, Paige appeared to take the win, but a red flag on the final lap triggered a rules-based review. Under MotoAmerica Regulation 1.27(c), the results reverted to the last completed timing loop, giving Vossberg the win by 0.723 seconds.

“It’s not the way I wanted to win, but the battle with Bodie was great,” Vossberg says.

Kody Kopp initially took third, but a post-race disqualification for an illegal frame modification moved Di Mario into the final podium spot. Carson King and Sam Drane completed the top five.

Championship outlook

With four of seven rounds complete, Di Mario leads the championship with 168 points, followed by Drane (130), Paige (122), and Vossberg (108).

While the racing action was intense, the swap meet was also equally impressive, with one of the largest turnouts ever. (Staff photo)

The intense racing action during Vintage Motorcycle Days showcased not only the future stars of American road racing but also honored the sport’s heritage, creating a unique and memorable weekend for fans and racers alike.
