Can-Am expands 2027 lineup with new Defender XU, updated Maverick R and Outlander models

Can-Am is entering the 2027 model year with updates across its side-by-side and ATV lineup, including a new utility-focused Defender XU, a redesigned Defender HD10, transmission upgrades for the Maverick R and new configurations for the Outlander family.

“Simply put, the 2027 Can-Am lineup is all about refinement and value,” says Jeremi Doyon-Roch, marketing director, Can-Am Off-Road, just ahead of Club BRP. “At Can-Am, we never rest on our laurels. We are always striving for the ultimate rider experience.”

New XU model

The biggest addition to the Defender lineup for 2027 is the new XU model, which comes equipped with several factory-installed Can-Am accessories aimed at utility customers.

The XU package will be available across the Defender lineup from base models through Lonestar, with both open and closed-cabin configurations offered.

The Defender XU includes a Headache Rack, Low Bed Wall Extender, LinQ Tool Holders and Trailer Hitch Ball Mount. Can-Am also is expanding its second-generation Defender platform with the new Defender HD10. Following the introduction of the redesigned HD11 for 2026, the HD10 receives a new 80-horsepower Rotax three-cylinder engine, along with an updated chassis and suspension, additional technology and upgraded interior features.

The 2027 Defender also gets a new 5-inch color gauge display. Limited, X mr and Lonestar models receive a 10.25-inch wireless touchscreen with embedded navigation through BRP GO!, AM/FM radio, digital audio and customizable display functions.

The wireless display also allows owners to update vehicle software remotely through a Wi-Fi or hotspot connection.

Transmission upgrade

Can-Am is standardizing its second-generation Rotax dual-clutch transmission across the 2027 Maverick R lineup. Previously introduced on the Maverick R X rc and Maverick R MAX, the updated transmission adds an extra low gear for improved power delivery in low-speed terrain. The transmission also incorporates reinforced components designed to handle increased torque.

Across the Maverick R and Maverick X3 lineups, Can-Am is adding integrated window nets and stiffer steel-braided front and rear brake lines. The Maverick X3 also receives door fillers to improve cabin sealing, while RS and DS models get full roofs. Double-bonded front suspension bushings are designed to reduce squeaking and maintenance.

For trail riders, Can-Am is expanding its X package to the Maverick Trail and Maverick Sport for 2027. The package adds LED lighting, full doors and a roof, while the Maverick Sport version also receives upgraded suspension components.

New mud configuration

The Outlander X mr lineup gets a new MAX configuration for 2027, giving mud-focused ATV customers a two-up option.

Can-Am is also expanding connectivity options on its high-horsepower Outlander XT and Backcountry models. Available models can be equipped with a 10.25-inch touchscreen featuring built-in GPS, offline mapping and group-ride functionality, along with access to ride-setting adjustments.

For dealers, the 2027 changes represent a broad update to Can-Am’s core ATV and side-by-side offerings, with an emphasis on utility content, technology, drivetrain refinement and factory-installed equipment that can add value before a vehicle reaches the showroom floor.
