65th Sturgis Rally Wraps Up
Motorcycle-related events, a sea of retailers, live music, manufacturer presentations, press from around the world, a few weddings, and the ever-present elbow-to-elbow traffic marked the 65th annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in the Black Hills of South Dakota.
While there is no exact count of how many motorcycles roll into Sturgis for the annual motorcycle event, the most-cited figures are based on South Dakota Department of Transportation traffic counters placed on all routes leading into town during rally week. Figures from this year are yet to be released.
Last year, counters tallied nearly 515,000 vehicles. However, the South Dakota DOT says it appears the best-attended event took place in 2000, when 604,000 vehicles entered the town of about 6,600 inhabitants.
