Norton Manx R wins 2026 International Design Excellence Award
Norton Motorcycles’ Manx R superbike has earned a Bronze award in the Automotive and Transportation category at the 2026 International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA), giving the British motorcycle manufacturer an international design honor for its flagship production model.
Organized annually by the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA), the IDEA Awards recognize design across a range of industries. According to Norton, the Manx R is the first production motorcycle with a combustion engine to receive an IDEA award.
The award also marks a milestone for Norton’s new design direction under its “Resurgence” strategy, which is being developed under the ownership of TVS Motor Company.
“The Manx R was created to challenge what a modern superbike can look and feel like,” says Simon Skinner, head of design at Norton Motorcycles. “We wanted to move away from visual noise and create something more reductive, more crafted and more connected to the rider.”
The Manx R takes a deliberately minimalist approach to superbike styling, emphasizing clean surfaces, exposed mechanical components and restrained proportions rather than the aggressive winglets, graphics and sharp bodywork common on many contemporary performance motorcycles.
The design strategy was shaped by Gerry McGovern, Norton’s chief creative advisor, and led by Skinner and Norton’s in-house design and engineering teams.
“From the beginning, the ambition for Norton’s resurgence was to create a design direction that was modern, emotionally engaging and worthy of the brand’s extraordinary heritage,” McGovern says.
The Manx R is the first model in Norton’s new-generation product lineup and combines its design focus with an all-new V4 powertrain, semi-active suspension, Brembo braking components, advanced rider-assistance technology and an 8-inch TFT touchscreen.
The motorcycle is designed, engineered and built at Norton’s headquarters in Solihull, U.K. For U.S. powersports dealers and consumers, the Manx R is scheduled to arrive alongside Norton’s Atlas mid-size adventure motorcycle beginning in October 2026. Pricing has not yet been announced.
Norton, which was acquired by TVS Motor Company in 2020, is using the Resurgence strategy to expand its product portfolio while maintaining its British design and manufacturing identity. The company has said it plans to introduce six new models as part of its broader product and brand expansion.
