Racing roundup: Tomac announces retirement, Pro Motocross crowns champions
Eli Tomac will retire from professional racing following the 2026 SuperMotocross World Championship postseason, bringing a 17-season career to a close.
The 33-year-old Red Bull KTM Factory Racing rider has won four 450SX Main Events this season and enters the final three SMX rounds as one of the most accomplished racers in American motocross and Supercross history.
Tomac ranks second all-time in 450SX Main Event victories with 57 wins and fourth in 450MX overall victories with 32. He is a two-time AMA Supercross 450SX champion and four-time AMA Pro Motocross 450MX champion. He also won the 2024 FIM World Supercross SX1 championship and has a record eight Daytona Supercross victories.
The Colorado native will make his final professional starts during the SMX Playoffs, culminating with the Sept. 26 SMX World Championship Final in Ridgedale, Missouri.
Hunter Lawrence captures first 450 class championship
Hunter Lawrence survived a dramatic Pro Motocross finale at Ironman Raceway to claim his first premier-class championship.
The Honda HRC Progressive rider entered the finale just one point ahead of younger brother Jett Lawrence. After a chaotic first moto that saw Hunter and Haiden Deegan crash together, Hunter charged from 39th to eighth while Jett finished 11th.
Hunter then managed fourth in the final moto to secure the championship by two points. Jorge Prado dominated the weekend with a 1-1 sweep, earning his first U.S. victory, while Cooper Webb finished third overall in his final full-time Pro Motocross start.
The championship makes Hunter and Jett the first brothers to win premier-class championships.
Davies clinches 250 title on 19th birthday
Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing’s Cole Davies captured the 250 Pro Motocross championship on his 19th birthday.
Davies clinched the title in the opening moto after season-long rival Levi Kitchen suffered misfortune. The New Zealand-born rider became the first Kiwi in 55 years to win the 250 Pro Motocross crown.
Davies’ championship completes a Supercross-Pro Motocross title double in 2026 after he also won the 250SX East championship. Julien Beaumer took the Ironman 250 overall with a 2-1 moto score.
Team USA names MXoN lineup
The American Motorcyclist Association has selected Chance Hymas, Levi Kitchen and Cooper Webb to represent the United States at the 2026 FIM Motocross of Nations Oct. 2-4 in Ernée, France.
Hymas will compete in MXGP, Kitchen in MX2 and Webb in the Open class while serving as team captain. All three riders will make their MXoN debut except Webb, who will make his fourth appearance.
The U.S. finished second at the 2025 event and will attempt to dethrone Australia, which has won the last two editions. Webb also indicated that 2026 will be his final season of Pro Motocross competition.
Turner wins third straight WMX Championship
Lachlan Turner held off Charli Cannon to secure her third consecutive Women’s Motocross Championship at Ironman.
Cannon dominated the finale, sweeping both motos for her second career U.S. victory, but Turner’s 5-4 finishes were enough to preserve her six-point championship advantage. Turner overcame a pair of crashes in the same woods section to finish fourth overall and claim the title.
Iannone sweeps Bagger World Cup round
Andrea Iannone made history in the FIM Harley-Davidson Bagger World Cup by sweeping both races at MotorLand Aragón, becoming the first rider to win both races at an event in the series.
The Niti Racing rider earned the maximum 50 points and moved to within 27 points of the championship lead. Archie McDonald now leads the inaugural championship with 174 points, seven ahead of teammate Eric Granado. Oscar Gutiérrez sits third with 148, followed by Iannone at 147.
The title will be decided Sept. 18-20 at Austria’s Red Bull Ring, with four riders still mathematically alive.
Estenson Yamaha sweeps Peoria TT
Estenson Racing Yamaha swept the headline victories at the 79th Caterpillar Peoria TT, with Dallas Daniels winning the Mission AFT SuperTwins Main Event and Tom Drane taking the KICKER AFT Singles victory.
Daniels defeated Briar Bauman by 0.325 seconds to extend his Grand National Championship lead to 20 points with two Springfield Mile rounds remaining.
Drane’s victory was even more significant, as his eighth win of the season clinched his second consecutive KICKER AFT Singles championship. His younger brother Sam Drane also won the Dan Bromley AFT ProSport 450 Invitational, completing the Estenson Yamaha sweep.
Glover named AMA Hall of Fame Legend
Six-time AMA Motocross National Champion Broc Glover will be honored as an AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame Legend during the Sept. 10 induction ceremony in Pickerington, Ohio.
Already inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2000, Glover earned Legend status for his accomplishments and influence beyond his racing career. He has spent decades working with riders, teams and manufacturers and currently serves as Dunlop’s senior manager of off-road racing.
Glover won six AMA Motocross National Championships, including three 500cc titles, and has also received the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Lifetime Achievement Award and MXGP Lifetime Career Award.
