KTM launches asphalt-use e-motorcycle in Europe

KTM is pleased to announce the launch of its first electrically powered motorcycle designed for super-fun asphalt use, the FREERIDE E-SM, which joins the FREERIDE E family and emphasizes the company`s intense commitment to innovation.

During this week the bike has been presented at a premiere media event in Barcelona, Spain where testers has been able to familiarize themselves with this exciting machine around the city, while also have the opportunity once again to ride its offroad sibling, the FREERIDE E-XC.

The Supermoto derived FREERIDE E-SM is powered by a brushless permanent magnet synchronous motor and forms part of the beginning of the electric revolution. With the arrival of the FREERIDE E-XC and E-SX last year, the very next step in KTM’s commitment to this technology is of course an electrically powered motorcycle designed for tarmac use. With a greener future in mind, this fully-fledged motorcycle requires low maintenance yet is the ultimate play bike.

With its powerful acceleration and high-voltage fun the FREERIDE E-SM has a typical KTM-style chassis and boasts a steel-aluminum composite frame, high-end WP suspension, 17” Giant wheels with Pirelli Diablo Rosso tires and is a premium quality motorcycle powered by a state-of-the-art electric motor along with the latest high-performance lithium-ion PowerPack. With a peak output of 16kW and 42Nm, this innovative machine does not need to shy away from motorcycles with combustion engines.

The bike, which has three power settings and is ideal for all kinds of motorcyclists from beginners to advanced, has all of the necessary features for registration — and is further in line with A1-driving license regulations. The launch of the FREERIDE E-SM marks part of a new era of motorcycles as KTM leads the way in innovation with E-Motorcycles, which are developed within at state-of-the-art R&D department fully dedicated to E-Technologies.

A true Sportmotorcycle which makes a lot sense to be used as Sprintbike in urban areas — and it should be the coolest bike in the parking spot.
