February motorcycle sales decline 6.2%

Motorcycle sales in February were down 6.2% from the same month last year, according to figures compiled by the Motorcycle Industry Council (MIC). That’s a drop of 3,452 units over the same period. For the first two months of the year, sales were off 2.7%

ATVs unit sales were about flat for the month, edging up 291 units or 0.7%. Through February, 2004 ATV sales were 88,290 units, up 6.4%, or 5,275 units, for the year.


The highway segment continued to be the largest segment, posting sales of 53,345 units through February, down 3.2 % over the same two months in 2003.


The fastest growing segment for the year was scooters, which grew at a rate of 44% in February and 45.4% for the first two months of the year. However, unit sales were only 3,750 for the two-month period. psb
