Community college tech certification launched near Hatfield-McCoys: report

Community colleges should consider a partnership with a powersports manufacturer for their technician certification programs. At Southern West Virginia Community Technical College, Polaris has a “working agreement” with the program in the heart of the Hatfield-McCoy Trail System, according to a story in the Pineville (West Virginia) Independent Herald.

Instructor Paul Lowe provides insight into the program, noting that four students are enrolled now, and three more will start in the fall. A high school diploma is required to register. He hopes former miners looking into new careers will consider the two-year program.

“We have all the equipment they need to work on, including diagnostics,” Lowe said. “They can really learn it all here.”
