Yamaha looks to sell more than 500,000 low cc bikes in India

In 2009, Yamaha is aiming to sell more than a half-million motorcycles in India in the 100-125cc segments in order to expand its presence in the country, according to Business Standard.

The manufacturer is trying to add 80 new dealers this year in addition to its existing 430 dealers. Yamaha Motor India CEO and Managing Director Tsutomu Mabuchi says some dealers might drop after the restructuring, but there will still be additional dealers.

“Our fundamentals in the country are not as strong as our competitors,” he said. “For the last one year, we are working to improve our fundamentals … which include setting up strong sales, services, dealership and spare parts network.”
