Piaggio moves forward with Vietnam plant
Italian manufacturer Piaggio broke ground for its new scooter facility in Vietnam, AGI news service reported Oct. 9. Piaggio Chairman Roberto Colaninno was on hand to lay the first stone for the factory in the Vinh Phuc province.
Piaggio is investing more than $30 million (euro 21 million) in Vietnam. The factory, which is slated to produce Vespas, has a target output of 100,000 units per year. Construction should be completed, and the facility operational, by 2009.
The factory in Vietnam is “the last step in a strategic plan to be present in the entire Asian market,” Colaninno told the news service.
