Two side-by-sides remain missing after Canadian powersports dealership break-in
Two side-by-side vehicles remain missing after three UTVs were stolen from Borderland Power Sports in Manitoba, Canada, early Sept. 15.
Pembina Valley RCMP responded to the dealership along Highway 3 in the Rural Municipality of Stanley shortly after 7:30 a.m. following a report of a break-in and theft, according to PembinaValleyOnline.com. Police said the suspect or suspects arrived at the dealership around 5 a.m., cut the lock on a gate leading to the service center and then cut a chain-link fence to access the property.
Three side-by-sides were stolen: a Kawasaki, a Polaris and a CFMOTO. The CFMOTO was later recovered in a field a short distance from the dealership. Staff Sgt. Darcy Thiessen told Pembina Valley Online that the vehicle appeared to have run out of fuel.
The two remaining stolen vehicles are a 2024 Kawasaki Ridge Ranch and a 2024 Polaris Ranger XD 1500 North Star Edition. The investigation expanded Sept. 16 after Selkirk RCMP recovered a trailer that had been reported stolen from Friesen Sales and Rentals, another business along Highway 3 between Winkler and Morden. Police believe the trailer may be connected to the dealership theft after one of the stolen side-by-sides was reportedly spotted in the same general area.
According to Thiessen, the stolen Polaris Ranger was later reported in the area of the floodway and East Perimeter on the outskirts of Winnipeg. Police attempted to intercept the vehicle but were unsuccessful. RCMP believe more than one person may have been involved in the theft.
Surveillance footage captured one male suspect wearing a distinctive green-and-black jacket featuring a Mac Tools logo on the back, along with a black hood, gloves and jeans. Police have obtained surveillance images as part of the investigation.
