New Haven police win Harley-Davidson in 9/11 tribute drawing
The New Haven, Connecticut, Police Department has a new Harley-Davidson motorcycle after being selected in a national giveaway tied to an annual Sept. 11 memorial ride.
According to the New Haven Register, the department received the 2026 Harley-Davidson on Sept. 14 after being selected by America’s 911 Foundation from more than 200 participating police departments.
The motorcycle giveaway is part of the foundation’s annual 9/11 Ride, which honors those killed in the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. The motorcycle was presented to New Haven police by foundation co-founder Lisa Sjurseth and her husband Ted. The newspaper reported that the motorcycle is a new, birch-white 2026 Harley-Davidson Police Road Glide.
America’s 911 Foundation organizes the annual ride, which begins in Somerset County, Pennsylvania, at the site where United Airlines Flight 93 crashed on Sept. 11, 2001. The ride continues to the Pentagon and concludes in New York City at the World Trade Center site.
Police departments provide escorts along the route, and participating departments are eligible for the motorcycle drawing. Sjurseth told the New Haven Register that the foundation had more than 200 departments participating this year, with participation increasing for the 25th anniversary of the attacks.
New Haven is the fourth Connecticut police department to receive a motorcycle through the program, joining departments in Fairfield, Greenwich and Trumbull, according to the foundation.
Police escorts participating in this year’s ride came from departments across the Northeast, as well as from as far away as Daytona Beach, Florida.
