Missouri House committee considers ‘Helmet Holiday’ bill for Sturgis attendees

A Missouri state representative has proposed a “Helmet Holiday” bill that would allow adults to go helmet-free during the month of August, encouraging those riding to Sturgis to stop in the state.

Rep. Delus Johnson (R-St. Joseph) argues that the state’s current law, requiring riders to wear helmets at all times, prevents some Sturgis attendees from riding through Missouri, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. His bill and another, which would lift the helmet law for anyone over age 21, were discussed at a House General Laws committee meeting last week.
