Big Dog furloughs employees; rumors swirl
Big Dog Motorcycles has furloughed 10 employees, sparking rumors of a possible closure, according to published reports.
Company President Mike Simmons told the Wichita Business Journal and The Wichita Eagle of the furloughs. Big Dog hasn’t made motorcycles since last year and is now filling orders for parts and other supplies with its current staff of 22, he told The Wichita Eagle. He reported to the Wichita Business Journal that if production picks up again, the eliminated jobs may return. He also dispelled rumors of a possible closure. A message left with Simmons by Powersports Business on Tuesday morning was not immediately returned.
Cyril Huze, a custom motorcycle builder, blogged on Monday that Big Dog was closing. The report quickly spread across the Internet, leading to inquiries by fans and owners on Big Dog’s Facebook page.
