Yamaha returns to Canadian Superbike Championship

The organizer of a motorcycle road racing series says Yamaha is returning to the Canadian Superbike Championship.

Yamaha will join the field with its YZF R6 and YZF R1 models, according to a report on the Canadian Superbike Championship website.

“Yamaha is thrilled to be back road racing in Canada,” Tim Kennedy, marketing manager of Yamaha Motor Canada, said on the online report. “We felt that after a short absence, it was time to come back and be part of a series that we strongly believe in.”

Yamaha originally left the series in 2009, according to a separate report on Motorcycle.com.

The 2011 Canadian Superbike Championship presented by Parts Canada opens on May 20 at Calabogie Motorsports Park.
