NMMA Reveals 2004 Market Trends

The National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA), the organization that represents more than 1,500 companies in the recreational boating industry, has released a number of statistics concerning consumer market trends during 2004.
The NMMA says the average price of a new boat last year was $12,360; the average price of a new outboard engine was $9,131; and the average price of a new outboard boat, motor and trailer package was $24,079.
The organization says the five states leading the nation in retail sales of new powerboats, motors, trailers and accessories last year accounted for nearly 35% of the nation’s total retail expenditures on those items. Florida was the leading state, with $2.1 billion in sales; followed by California, $1.2 billion; Texas, $830 million; New York, $630 million; and Minnesota, $583 million.
California replaced Michigan as the state with most boat registrations, 963,379 units versus 953,554 units, respectively.
