Honda grows powersports sales in fiscal 2014
Honda Motor Co., Ltd. reported its Honda Group unit sales of motorcycles (including scooters, ATVs and side-by-sides) were up 9.9 percent to 17 million vehicles in fiscal 2014.
The increase in the 2014 fiscal year, which ended March 31, was attributed mostly to the positive impact of new model introductions in India and the additional of fuel injection models in Indonesia. The motorcycle business reported increases in each 2014 quarter, with Q4 jumping 13.6 percent in Honda Group unit sales to 4.5 million units.
In North America, motorcycle segment sales were down 7.3 percent to 166,000 units. The fourth quarter dropped 5.8 percent to 49,000 units.
Overall, Honda’s consolidated operating income for fiscal 2014 grew 37.7 percent to ¥750.2 billion, while consolidated net income rose 56.4 percent to ¥574.1 billion because of an increase in auto sales in Japan and North America, motorcycle sales in Asia, cost reductions and favorable currency effects due to the depreciation of the Japanese yen.
Wow, I expected the numbers to be good but not not almost a 10% increase. Nice!
