Founder of Crane Cams dies

Harvey Crane Jr., founder of Crane Cams, died May 31, the company reported on its Facebook page.

Crane established his company, which produces a number of products for the motorcycle and automotive industries, in 1953 after grinding his first camshaft in his father’s machine shop, according to the company’s website.

“It is with a sad heart that we at Crane Cams say good bye to an icon of the industry and the name sake of this company. Harvey Crane Jr. passed away on Friday, May 31, 2013. He leaves behind him a long list of students of his techniques, friends, competitors, and, arguable the most empirical knowledge ever developed by a single individual when it comes to camshaft design theory and execution. Please join us here at Crane Cams in a moment of silence out of respect for a truly great man, the accomplishments of his lifetime, and the contributions that helped launch an industry,” the company posted.
