JAMA manufacturers continue downward trend

Manufacturers in the Japanese Automobile Manufacturers Association have followed up a negative report for January with decreases in motorcycle production and exports for February, according to statistics from the organization. Major JAMA members include Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki and Yamaha.

Members collectively posted a 19.5 percent decrease in motorcycle production for February 2008 compared to the same month of the previous year. That is a 30,828-unit decrease to 127,045 units for the month. February was the sixth consecutive month production has fallen.

Exports were also down for the month. JAMA members reported shipping 122,085 units abroad in February 2008, an 11.2 percent decrease from the same month of the previous year. It was the fifth consecutive month the companies reported a collective decrease compared to the previous year.
