Piaggio’s Gilera sales up
Piaggio SpA’s brand Gilera expects to reach 41,000 units this year, compared to 35,000 in both 2005 and 2006, and is aiming for 50,000 a year, said Daniele Bandiera, managing director, at a press conference Sept. 5.
Speaking at the launch of Gilera’s GP800 “hyperscooter,” Bandiera said this latest model cost euro 16 million ($21.9 million) to develop and is part of Piaggio’s effort to relaunch the 100-year-old Gilera brand.
“We expect more than 40,000 units this year and the aim is to get to 50,000 as soon as possible,” Bandiera said, without revealing a date for the higher target.
