California considering mandatory safety classes
The California Department of Boating and Waterways is considering a requirement for all boaters to participate in mandatory boating safety classes.
The department recently held one open forum in mid-July in Los Angeles, and another is planned for Aug. 17 in Sacramento. Information will be presented at the forums on what other states have done in regard to boating education requirements, as well as what their impact has been on boating safety.
Currently, more than 20 states require some type of boating safety certification.
