2019 Yamaha WaveRunner FX: Color touchscreen instrumentation, RAM Mount System

Here’s a closer look at the 2019 Yamaha FX WaveRunner Series, revealed at the dealer meeting tonight in San Diego.

The best-selling luxury performance personal watercraft series returns with an all-new deck and hull design, the industry’s first color touchscreen instrumentation, self-draining footwells, and an innovative multi-mount concept that makes affixing accessories to the FX a snap.

For 2019, the FX Series includes five models; the flagship FX Limited SVHO, supercharged FX and FX Cruiser SVHO and normally-aspirated FX and FX Cruiser HO.

All-New Deck and Hull Design

The new deck of the FX Series is aggressive and bold, featuring stylish gunwales and an entire new look that is supercar-sleek; and there is plenty of functionality to go with its masculine good looks.

Starting at the bow, the forward storage compartment is larger and easier to access and now comes with a molded area for a soft cooler bag. The watertight glovebox is also larger than previous year models with plenty of room to store essentials. In all, there is 44 gallons of total storage.

The footwells are ergonomically shaped that remove pooling water. There is plenty of seating room for three adult passengers, and the seat material is plush with a premium appearance worthy of a luxury watercraft of the FX’s high caliber.

Moving to the stern, Yamaha designers improved the ergonomics of the rear handle, and the padded reboarding step is softer and wider for more comfort, and deeper to the waterline to make reboarding easier. This deck is especially designed for long cruises, offshore adventures, and watersports towing.

The new hull design favors stability, predictability, and comfort in choppy water conditions. This hull is designed to deliver a light, nimble ride despite its size.

The supercharged FX Limited, FX SVHO, and FX Cruiser SVHO feature Yamaha’s high-performance, ultra-lightweight NanoXcel 2 material; and the normally-aspirated FX HO and FX Cruiser HO come with Yamaha’s first-generation NanoXcel.

Industry’s First Color Touchscreen Instrumentation

The FX Series is the first personal watercraft to feature a multi-color LCD touchscreen.

Yamaha’s Connext touchscreen offers more fuel usage information than before, and it even comes with Yamaha’s Drive Control for watersports towing.

Drive Control allows operators to program engine speeds and acceleration curves.

In addition, all FXs now features a new fast-action start button that allows the user to start the engine with a quick press of the start button instead of having to hold it down.

New RAM Multi-Mount System to Support New Accessories

All 2019 FX WaveRunner models now come standard with Yamaha’s new Multi-Mount System to support a new range of accessories (including RAM mounts). These accessories include a cup holder, ECOXGEAR Waterproof Wireless Bluetooth Speakers and Garmin Striker GPS Fish Finder w/ Transducer.

The flagship FX Limited SVHO comes standard with an accessory package that includes a single-rider tube, tube inflator, tube holder, tow rope, soft sided cooler, 12V outlet, matching cover and two fenders.

In addition, the FX Limited features a Limited Package that includes two ECOXGEAR Waterproof Wireless Bluetooth Speakers, Garmin Striker GPS Fish Finder w/ Transducer and RAM Mount Hardware.

You can take the speakers with you to the beach, and the Fish Finder can be removed quickly and stowed away when not in use.

Advanced Throttle Control Features

On the handlebars, the entire FX line includes RiDE, Yamaha’s dual handlebar throttle controls that deliver maximum maneuverability control moving forward or in reverse.

RiDE could not be more intuitive. The right handlebar lever is forward. The left is reverse. At speed, the left handlebar lever will also slow you down. Release both right and left levers and the watercraft is in neutral. No shifting. No gears. The only thing to think about is how much fun it is to RiDE.

In addition to having the most advanced throttle control system on a personal watercraft, the FX line also comes with a five-position electronic trim, which allows the rider to adjust the handling characteristics of the watercraft on the fly from a looser, more playful feel to a more planted, high-performance experience.

Yamaha Super Vortex High Output (SVHO) Marine Engine

The FX Limited SVHO, FX Cruiser SVHO, and FX SVHO get their name from the Yamaha Super Vortex High Output marine engine that delivers more power and torque than any other Yamaha WaveRunner engine.

The SVHO engine features a high-performance intercooler, increased supercharger air intake capacity and boost, and a modified fuel injection system for increased fuel flow.

Under the waterline, the SVHO engine is matched with a 160mm eight-vane pump for maximum thrust volume and paired it with a top loader intake grate to optimize its efficiency and hookup in rough water.
