National tour includes Canada in 2010
The American PowerBoat Association recently announced its 2010 Watercross National Tour will include a stop across the border, bringing a national event to Canada for the first time in more than 10 years.
The race will take place July 17-18 in Belle River, Canada, just over the border from Detroit. The previous weekend’s event in Harbor Beach, Mich., promises to limit travel expense.
The event will run in conjunction with the 16th annual SunSplash Festival, which includes a classic car rally, carnival and free entertainment. The APBA is currently in search of one more West Coast venue to round out the 2010 tour, which already has scheduled stops in Parker, Ariz., Myrtle Beach, S.C., Harbor Beach, Mich., Colonial Beach, Va., and Nashville, Tenn.
Ethanol decision delayed
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)?recently announced it will delay a decision on whether to increase the ratio of ethanol blended into gasoline from the current 10 percent to a proposed 15 percent. A decision is expected by the middle of 2010.
The EPA has indicated that it believes the fuel, engine and emissions control systems on newer cars can handle the higher ethanol blends, but some boaters fear the higher blends due to its reputation for gumming up key parts of the fuel system.
