Motorcycle sales in 2002 continued strong with sales through October reaching 742,568 units, according to figures compiled by the Motorcycle Industry Council (MIC). That’s an increase of 9.7% over the same period in 2001.
The highway segment continued to be the largest segment, posting sales of 488,114 units through October, up 9.5% over the same nine months in 2001.
The fastest growing segment for the year was scooters, which grew at a rate of 38.9% over the 10 months. However, unit sales were only 31,406, about 4% of the total group sales.
Off-highway sales climbed 12.1% through October, reaching a total of 206,577 units.
