Save the Date for MIC’s 2018 Capitol Hill Fly-In
The Motorcycle Industry Council’s 2018 Capitol Hill Fly-In for members will be held Sept. 26-27 in Washington, DC. Mark your calendar for this exclusive opportunity to meet with your members of Congress or their senior staffs to make them aware of the importance and value of the powersports industry and to communicate positions on issues that affect your businesses.
This year will mark the fifth annual MIC Fly-In to the capital. Combining the voices of MIC members with the voice that MIC’s DC-based Government Relations staff provides daily on behalf of the powersports industry has made the efforts that much more effective.
During last year’s event, MIC members participated in over 40 meetings with Congressional representatives. At the various meetings, MIC member company representatives provided information on their businesses and on the economic impact of the powersports industry in their states.
Priority issues discussed at the meetings included urging Representatives and Senators to join the House and Senate Motorcycle Caucuses; opposition to a Border Adjustment Tax; the potential USTR tariff on small European motorcycles; racing vehicle conversion; supporting increased access to public lands for motorized recreation access; and reforming Consumer Financial Protection Bureau guidance on motor vehicle dealer loan rates.
A number of members of Congress took time from their hectic schedules to provide remarks to the group. Fly-in participants heard from Senator Richard Burr (R-NC), House Motorcycle Caucus co-chairs Reps. Michael Burgess (R-TX) and Tim Walberg (R-MI) and Senate Motorcycle Caucus co-chair Senator Joni Ernst (R-IA). Ann Marie Buerkle, Acting Chairman of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, also addressed the group. National Retail Federation senior staff also briefed the group on the Border Adjustment Tax and the Americans for Affordable Products Coalition, a large coalition of businesses and associations, including MIC, formed to oppose this proposed tax on imported products.
The Fly-In also provides plenty of time for networking with Board Members of the MIC, Specialty Vehicle Institute of America and Recreational Off-Highway Vehicle Association, and with fellow MIC members, not only in-between meetings, but during lunches on Capitol Hill and at MIC-member receptions and dinners hosted by the MIC. Fly-In registration is free for MIC members. Please keep an eye out for registration information coming soon.
