KYMCO recalls UTVs due to fire hazard

KYMCO USA has recalled about 1,876 UTVs after it was reported three of the vehicles had caught fire and were damaged. No injuries due to the fires has been reported.

On 2009-12 gasoline-powered UTVs, an exposed portion of the exhaust system can allow debris, such as leaves, brush or other materials into the opening. That debris can then ignite, posing a fire hazard. The models affected include the 2009-12 UXV 500, UXV 500 LE and USV 500 SE, and the 2012 UXV 500i, UXV 500i LE and UXV 500i SE. They were sold from June 2008-October 2011.

Owners of the affected units are being told to return the UTVs to a KYMCO dealer for free installation of a repair kit.
