Skully Helmets has been awarded the coveted SXSW Accelerator Award in the Wearable Technology category. The groundbreaking AR-1 helmet that provides motorcycle riders with an intelligent heads-up display system, a full 180-degree rear view camera, Bluetooth connectivity, GPS navigation and voice control was chosen for its innovative technological design and safety applications. Skully Helmets was honored at a ceremony Sunday, March 9, 2014 and received a $4,000 prize.

“We are thrilled to receive this honor among this distinguished group of judges and entrepreneurs,” said Dr. Marcus Weller, CEO, Skully Helmets. “This is a great jump-start for the new year as we head forward to our product going to market.”

The 6th annual SXSW Accelerator competition presented by Oracle is the marquee event of SXSW Interactive Festival’s Startup Village, where leading startups from around the world showcase some of the most impressive new technology innovations to a panel of hand-picked judges and a live audience. Over 500 companies submitted to present at SXSW Accelerator, where Skully Helmets was selected out of 48 finalists in six different categories including Enterprise and Big Data Technologies, Entertainment and Content Technologies, Health Technologies, Innovative World Technologies, Social Technologies, and Wearable Technologies.

The SXSW Accelerator Award is the latest recognition for Skully Helmets. Launched in late 2013 at the renowned DEMO Conference in Silicon Valley, Skully’s AR-1 helmet received rave reviews and was selected as DEMOgod as part of the prestigious event. Now a SXSW Accelerator Award winner, Skully Helmets looks to continue the momentum with an upcoming beta testing program, followed by market availability.
