Carter, SYM Sign Distributor Agreement

Alabama-based Carter Brothers Mfg. Co. Inc. has signed a five-year contract to serve as the U.S. distributor of product from Taiwan’s Sanyang Industry Co. Ltd.
With annual sales of approximately $620 million, Sanyang Industry manufactures scooters, motorcycles and ATVs under the SYM brand as well as automobiles for Hyundai. Founded in 1954, the company distributes its brand to more than 35 countries and has subsidiaries in Italy, China and Vietnam.
The SYM-Carter product lineup will include seven models of scooters, from 50cc to 250cc, and a number of ATVs ranging from 90cc up to 600cc. Carter says only half of the entire lineup of products is currently available, due to new DOT & EPA regulations. The company said the complete lineup should be available by 2007.
As part of the deal, Carter and SYM signed an engine agreement whereby Carter will be able to use SYM engines in current and future projects, such as go-karts and buggies.
