KTM Updates Importer in New Zealand

KTM-Sportmotorcycle AG has appointed one of the largest automotive retail groups in Australia to serve as the exclusive importer and distributor of KTM product in New Zealand.
Automotive Holdings Group Ltd. (AHG) has been the Australian importer and distributor of KTM motorcycles since 1994. The company takes over KTM’s New Zealand business August 1.
AHG currently serves 62 dealers in Australia, where KTM sales grew from 160 units in 1994 to 4,982 units in 2005.
Off-road motorcycles account for 56 percent of the market in New Zealand. AHG will hold a 74 percent interest in the New Zealand business while KTM-Sportmotorcycle AG will hold 26 percent.
AHG’s business in addition to KTM motorcycle importation and distribution includes logistics business Rand Transport, specializing in refrigerated transport and storage; and AMCAP, a distributor of motor parts and industrial supplies.
KTM formed a strategic partnership with Polaris Industries Inc. in July 2005. Polaris sold 49 percent more ATVs in Australia last year than in 2004. In March, KTM announced it had become Polaris’ exclusive distributor in Germany.
