Minnesota Designates 90 miles of ATV Trails
Minnesota Department of Natural Resources has designated 90 miles of all-terrain vehicle trails in northern Minnesota. The trails are within or adjacent to state wildlife management areas known as Consolidated Conservation Lands in Aitkin, Beltrami and Marshall Counties.
Minnesota’s 2002 Legislature passed a law requiring the DNR to locate and mark trails to ensure reasonable access for ATVs.
The designations came after a lengthy public comment period and investigations by county work teams comprised of appointed area residents and DNR staff.
Many of the designated trails are scheduled to be ready to ride this spring. Others will need bridge or culvert work and won’t open until later this year.
