The Piano Man puts vintage motorcycle collection up for auction
A year after his vintage motorcycle store closed, music legend Billy Joel announced he will auction off his famed motorcycle collection at Gooding Christie’s inaugural Rétromobile New York Auction, Nov. 20-21.

The auction will feature Joel’s vintage 75-motorcycle collection, consisting of bikes from the 1940s to the 1970s. Models include a 1978 Triumph T140 Bonneville, a 1982 Ducati Mike Hailwood 900, and a 1977 Harley-Davidson XLCR.
Joel’s full collection of bikes up for auction can be viewed on Gooding Christie’s website.
In a release, Gooding Christie President David Gooding said it is “truly honored to present the Billy Joel Motorcycle Collection, and with what better location than New York City itself, a place so strongly associated with Mr. Joel and his celebrated legacy as one of the most beloved musicians of all time.”
Joel also released a statement regarding the auction, saying, “I’ve always been drawn to bikes built by people who cared about getting every detail right. I’ve loved building this collection. Now it’s someone else’s turn to hit the road.”
Proceeds from the sale of Joel’s bikes will go toward The Joel Foundation.
