Yamaha pro angler Iaconelli visits Yamaha Marine headquarters
Yamaha pro angler Mike Iaconelli visited the Yamaha Marine headquarters in Kennesaw, Georgia, earlier this week to record a series of public service announcements on topics including Yamaha’s efforts on protecting access to public waterways, proper labeling of E15 and Yamaha’s World Oceans Day cleanup event with Keep the Golden Isles Beautiful, June 8.
“I’m inviting you to be an advocate to help keep these freedoms,” said Iaconelli. “I go to Washington D.C. two or three times a year to help with these causes, but I can’t do it alone. I’m asking you to be an advocate to keep public waterways open. There’s lots of ways to do it. Contact your local state representative, or your congressmen, and let them know you are proud to be an angler.”
Iaconelli’s public service announcements are a part of Yamaha’s commitment to be an industry leader in advocacy, conservation and sustainability and to promote best practices and policies that benefit anglers and conservationists nationwide. Iaconelli also discussed the significance of teaching children how to fish and passing on the sport to the next generation.
“Our mission is to get more kids fishing and in the outdoors, especially youth in areas where those activities are not readily available,” Iaconelli said.
Iaconelli is the winner of the 2003 Bassmaster Classic, the 2006 Bassmaster Angler of the Year, and the B.A.S.S. Nation Championship. To this date, he remains the only angler to win all three awards. His nonprofit organization, “The Ike Foundation,” was founded by Iaconelli and his wife Becky in 2014 and seeks to get more youths involved in the sport of fishing. Iaconelli is the author of the 2005 book “Fishing on the Edge.”
