A Chinese company that began supplying Walmart stores with electric mobility scooters for shoppers is about ready to add another product to the U.S. market — this time, in powersports.

Feishen Group, based in Hangzhou, made its first deal with Walmart stores in 2000. In addition to producing products for the stand-up scooter and medical mobility markets, it also is a market share leader in China of motorhomes, RVs and other towables. More recently, it began manufacturing balance scooters and drones, along with intelligent electronic hardware such as gimbals. The company has an annual output of 2 million vehicles for more than 100 different models. Feishen’s customers are from more than 50 countries.

The ATV division — alongside sister company Zheijiang Feishen Vehicle Industry Co., Ltd — was formed in 2004, and by 2016, a new 3.2 million square-foot assembly factory opened in Yongkang. The location is about 125 miles away from its 85,000 square-foot R&D facility in Hangzhou, where 100 employees are planning for future products.

Displaying an impressive 900cc-class side-by-side at 2017 EICMA in Milan, the company’s Troxus brand was back for the second year in a row at EICMA, a notable feat. That’s when we decided to take a closer look.

The new $12 million manufacturing plant will allow for an output of 50,000 large-displacement ATVs and side-by-sides annually. The vehicle engines were developed by the Troxus R&D team and are made by sister company Zheijiang Topso Technology Co., Ltd. The engine lineup currently includes a 900cc v-twin in the Kiska-designed Ridge 900 side-by-side. A 450 single cylinder engine has completed its R&D stage, and the 550 version is already in use. The 750, 1000 and 1000 turbo are all in the R&D stage.

The lineup boasts major plans for the future, with expecations that the ATV and UTV business will generate sales volume of over $180 million over the next five years (60 percent ATV sales and 40 percent side-by-side sales).

There’s plenty of strength and powersports know-how behind Troxus. Ivan Tan, formerly sales director at Hangzhou-based CFMOTO, is sales director of Feishen Vehicle Industry Co., Ltd. Chen Xiangyang, president of Feishen Group, is the president of the Leisure Sports Association of Zhejiang Province and vice secretary of the ATV Committee on Standards of China. He is also vice chairman of the ATV Alliance of China.

The model lineup

The Troxus Ridge 900 side-by-side took center stage in Milan. Three Troxus ATVs — the Dune 900 2-Up, the Dune 900 1-up and the Dune 590 — also were on display.

“Designed in Europe + Made in China + International brand is the tagline of Troxus,” Tan said. “We have a talented R&D and design team, cooperation with the world-leading Austrian design company KISKA and stringent product quality standard.”

The Ridge 900 was designed together by Troxus and Austria-based Kiska. It features dual A-arm independent front suspension, multi-link independent rear suspension, locking differential, 13 inches of suspension travel and ground clearance, an adjustable seat and an adjustable steering wheel.

The Troxus team solely developed the Dune 900 2-Up. It’s equipped with the 75hp Troxus 900 engine, on demand switch between four-wheel and two-wheel drive, long travel suspension, differential locks and Electronic Power Steering (EPS). The 4-stroke, 8-valve, EFI, liquid-cooled V-twin engine displaces 885cc.

“This model is available for sale now and has received great feedback from many users around the world,” Tan said.

The Dune 900 1-Up makes use of a dual A-arm independent front suspension and dual A-arm torsion bar rear suspension, providing superior acceleration and control.

The Dune 590 was developed by Troxus in cooperation with Kiska, and is equipped with the 43hp Troxus 550 single-cylinder engine, on demand switch between 4-wheel and 2-wheel drive, long travel suspension and differential locks as well as EPS. Smart phone connectivity on all vehicles provides for an enhanced experience.

“Troxus is young but full of potential,” Tan added. “It inspires you to conquer your inhibitions, take adventure, explore and enjoy yourself, and share all the fun with your friends.”

Tan said Troxus has plans to make its American debut at AIMExpo, set for Oct. 11-14 at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.
