U.K.: Try a motorcycle for free at 15 events all summer
News release
“Get On,” the U.K. motorcycle industry’s free ‘tryout’ program is coming to this year’s national BikeSafe Show and Track Experience at Rockingham Speedway Circuit in Northamptonshire on Saturday, July 16.
“Get On” is open to anyone aged 15 or over who wants to try a motorcycle or scooter for the first time, or who wants to get back on a bike after a few years away and it’s absolutely free.
Riders will be offered a 30-minute session with a professional instructor, with all safety clothing provided, during which time they will be introduced to the gears, brakes, clutch and slow speed handling.
Sessions are between 10 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. and can be booked beforehand via the website www.geton.co.uk or by calling 02476 408040, or by turning up on the day.
Steve Kenward, CEO of the Motorcycle Industry Association, which funds “Get On,” says:
“The national BikeSafe Show is a hugely varied event and one which attracts riders and their families from across the UK. As it is only £1 to get into the show, it also attracts non-riders and once they experience the buzz around such an event, they often want to try a motorcycle themselves. 7-year-old stunt rider Lottie Trenchard will be showcasing her skills and seeing someone so competent at such a young age always inspires people to want to get on a bike.”
About the BikeSafe Show
The BikeSafe show includes opportunities for motorcyclists to see new models and the latest kit, take an assessed ride with the police and try track riding with the California Superbike School, which requires advanced booking. There will also be the chance to take a pillion ride on the circuit, try a skid bike plus Moto Gymkhana. Kawsaki’s Lee Dunham will be offering an hour long off-road experience for just £15 and you can try new road models for free courtesy of Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha, Triumph and BMW. BMW is also bringing its electric bicycles for visitors to try. There is a packed programme of demonstrations and plenty for children to do.
The Rockingham Speedway Circuit is on Mitchell Road, Corby, Northants, NN17 5AF. For full details of the programme and requirements for bookable events see the website www.bikesafe.co.uk
“Get On” was set up in 2011 by members of the Motorcycle Industry Association to offer a program of motorcycle taster sessions. A survey of 4,000 “Get On” riders found that only 2.5 percent said they did not enjoy their Get On experience.
