As the flagship model in the KX family, the Kawasaki KX450F motorcycle leads the way with a powerful, nimble, and technologically advanced heritage. Inspired by Kawasaki’s factory race team, the KX450F motorcycle is simply race-ready. It remains one of the most sought-after bikes in its class and Kawasaki mounted racers also receive the benefit of the industry-leading Team Green support network that can be found trackside. The Kawasaki KX450F has a rich history of producing champions.

Factory race team inspired, redesigned triple clamps with increased rigidity that enable quick turn in

  • Slim, perimeter frame and swingarm give better rider feel
  • Revised ECU settings
  • Industry-leading Showa SFF-Air TAC (Separate Function front Fork, Triple Air Chamber) separates damping and spring duties into each fork tube. It also replaces heavy coil spring with air chambers to improve response and reduce weight
  • Aggressive factory styling including seat designed for easier rider movement and new for 2017 in-mold graphics

Kawasaki is determined to produce the best performing 450cc motocross bike, featuring a factory-race inspired engine, state of the art aluminum perimeter frame, and lightweight, razor-thin chassis. New for 2017 are redesigned upper and lower triple clamps inspired by the Monster Energy Kawasaki racing team. Riders will reap the benefits of rider adjustability and innovative electronic upgrades, which target maximizing performance for a variety of riding levels and racing conditions.

ENGINE

  • Factory race-derived Bridged-Box-Bottom piston has optimum rigidity for maximum high-rpm power and durability
  • Intake ports, intake valves, cam timing and cylinder offset designed for increased power across a broad rev range
  • High-flow airbox with rear intake channels improve flow and reduce intake noise

Kawasaki’s already powerful race-winning motocross bike is back stronger than ever for 2017, with the KX450F motorcycle boasting a potent, lightweight engine package inspired by its factory race efforts.

The cylinder head is offset (8.5mm forward) to reduce mechanical loss through friction from the piston movement, thus enabling more efficient power generation. Intake port angles contribute to improving mid-high RPM performance and over-rev. A special coating has been used on intake port cores during the casting process to make the ports smoother. The butter-smooth surfaces and port shape increase efficiency and performance at all RPM.

The 36mm titanium intake valves complement slim throat angle and reduced recess to increase high-RPM performance, similar to valves on the engines found in Kawasaki Ninja sportbikes. Intake cam timing settings maximize low-RPM performance, while a lightweight camshaft improves throttle response and extends over-rev. A bridged-box piston design, which features a 12:8:1 compression ratio, is based on the AMA factory race bikes and matches the intake valve shape.

The exhaust system header design features a resonator chamber to improve low-RPM power and help reduce the decibel sound level. A unique air box design has gone away from using any steel parts, resulting in weight savings. Underseat intakes and air box shape help ensure clean airflow, ultimately improving engine response and reducing intake noise.

In the transmission, lightweight gears and shafts reduce weight and retain their overall strength while contributing to the motorcycle’s overall winning performance. The engine cases, which feature a scavenger pump on the right case, have been constructed of the lightest materials and are designed to meet the highest standards of durability.

ELECTRONICS

  • ECU programming is easily selectable via interchangeable DFI couplers included with the bike that provide three pre-programmed maps for standard, hard or soft (terrain), without the need for a separate programmer or laptop
  • The KX450F was the first factory-motocross bike in the industry to feature launch control, which increases the ability to get good starts by maximizing available traction
  • Kawasaki Accessory FI Calibration Kit (Handheld) allows precise adjustment of fuel and ignition settings while eliminating the need for a laptop (sold separately)

In addition to the high-performance engine components, the fuel injection system (ECU) returns with DFI couplers that have set the industry standard. Each KX450F motorcycle comes standard with three different couplers, allowing riders to quickly change fuel injection and ignition mapping to suit the riding conditions. The four-pin DFI couplers are designed for standard, hard or soft terrain settings. Changing the coupler is as simple as connecting the coupler cap of choice.

For riders looking to fine tune their ECU the KX FI Calibration Kit (Handheld) is offered as part of a selection of Kawasaki Genuine Accessories, which allows access to the fully programmable ECU. Eliminating the need for a trackside laptop, the handheld device gives riders the ability to create custom maps for precise adjustment of fuel and ignition settings. It can store up to seven preset maps and is PC-compatible.

The launch control system of the KX450F motorcycle is extremely popular for both amateur and pro riders who are focused on getting the holeshot. The push-button activation retards ignition timing in first and second gears, helping maximize traction and put the bike’s power to the ground. As the rider shifts into third gear, normal ignition mapping immediately resumes and full power returns.

CHASSIS

  • Factory race team inspired, redesigned triple clamps that enable quick turn in
  • Tapered “D” shape swingarm is lighter than a comparable box-section unit and provides superior rigidity for its weight
  • Swingarm features tapered hydro-formed spars and forged chain adjusters

Kawasaki’s engineers have worked with the factory racing team to develop new upper and lower triple clamps with increased rigidity that provide more stability to improve front-end feel and enable a quicker turn-in when cornering. The new triple clamps combine with the perimeter frame to boast superior handling. With rider movement in mind, the perimeter spars have been designed to ultra-thin specifications for a narrow profile. A lightweight, rigid swingarm is used to help rear-wheel traction and overall rider feel and handling performance.

The alloy swingarm is constructed of a cast front section and twin tapered hydro-formed spars in a raw aluminum finish. Forged chain adjusters are also equipped with a self-locking rear axle nut. The axle nut holds the 80lb-ft torque setting without the need of a cotter pin for ease of maintenance at the track.

BODYWORK & SEAT

  • Lightweight minimalist bodywork including in-mold graphics that result in an ultra-smooth shroud surface and ensure the race-inspired graphics are not easily damaged
  • Aggressive design of front fender adds to race-like appearance
  • Reinforced seat base with increased rigidity
  • The minimalist shrouds were designed to be small and slim where they come into contact with the rider’s legs. The two-piece construction and elongated design creates a smooth surface between the rider’s legs, facilitating easier movement
  • Flat seat design uses urethane foam designed to retain its original shape and provide optimum durability. Flat design unifies with bodywork to help ensure the rider can move around freely
  • Top of fuel tank is low, allowing easier progression from the seat to the tank. Flat design gives the rider greater freedom of movement when changing riding position, allowing the rider to sit further forward

The 2017 KX450F motorcycle’s appearance features aggressive styling along with in-mold graphics on the radiator shrouds in order to keep up with its race proven performance, retaining the racy look expected at the top of its class. The bodywork has been shaped to form around the narrow chassis design, which allows for rider maneuverability in the fiercest conditions.

The fuel tank has been designed to lower the overall center of gravity. The flat design gives the rider greater freedom of movement when changing riding position, while also allowing the rider to sit further forward.

Completing the bike’s eye-catching appearance are the green engine plugs, oil cap, and generator cover plugs, as well as green alumite suspension adjusters and black alumite wheels. The clutch cover features embossing that is designed to appear as contact from the rider’s boots wears away the paint.

To help protect the bottom of the 2017 KX450F motorcycle’s engine from general wear and tear encountered during a typical day at the track, a large synthetic skidplate offers a level of protection with minimal weight. It features oval holes in order to facilitate easy mud removal and further reduce weight.

SUSPENSION & BRAKES

  • Showa SFF-Air TAC (Separate Function front Fork, Triple Air Chamber) with triple air chamber uses air as a spring. The reduced weight and inertia of the air spring improves smoothness and enhances the fork’s ability to follow terrain contours
  • Revised rear shock linkage ratios and tie-rod length along with revised rear shock valve setting and spring
  • 22-position rebound damping adjuster allows precise fine-tuning of the rebound circuit
  • Easy adjuster access allows trackside suspension tuning with a minimum of hassle or lost time
  • Lightweight 270mm “oversized” front rotor is squeezed by a powerful twin-piston caliper and features an aggressive petal design to help clear mud and debris

The 2017 KX450F once again features the Showa SFF-Air TAC (Separate Function front Fork, Triple Air Chamber) fork technology, which separates the damping and shock absorption duties into the individual fork legs. The left fork contains the damping assembly and the right fork contains the air spring. Instead of the steel coil springs found in conventional forks, the SFF-Air TAC’s right fork tube has three chambers filled with pressurized air that acts as a “spring.” With the elimination of steel coil springs, friction is reduced by approximately 20% and creates an extremely smooth action throughout the fork’s stroke. This has added the benefit of greatly reducing weight and allowing a larger damper piston to be used, providing smoother action.

It is lightweight and rigid, contributing to superior riding stability and front-end feel. The low-friction design, including a DLC coating to the outside of the lower fork tubes, contributes to an extremely smooth fork action. Precise settings can be adjusted by simply changing air pressure or using the 22-position compression and 20-position rebound damping adjustment. Changing air pressure covers a range of settings offered by optional springs in a standard fork, including quick changes of ride height, without needing to disassemble the fork tubes.

Kawasaki’s Uni-Trak linkage rear suspension system is designed to work in conjunction with the aluminum frame and swingarm. The linkage mounted below the swingarm allows a longer rear suspension stroke, while maintaining a low seat height. Dual compression adjustability from the Showa shock allows high-speed and low-speed damping rates to be set separately. The shock reservoir has a friction-reducing internal Kashima Coat for improved suspension action. The race-oriented rear suspension offers class-leading action and adjustability on par with the Showa SFF-Air TAC fork. The fully adjustable shock allows for precise settings to help keep the rear wheel planted and the rider out front.

An optional Kawasaki rear suspension linkage tie rod is available for riders seeking an edge over the competition. It is 1mm longer than stock and can be used to reduce seat height by 4mm to give the rider adjustment options.

In order to consistently turn fast lap times and keep up with its powerful engine, Kawasaki uses an oversized 270mm, petal-shaped front brake rotor from the renowned manufacturer, Braking. Its purpose is to provide powerful stopping, good lever feel, and consistency in all conditions. The rear is equipped with a 240mm petal-shaped Braking rotor.

ADJUSTABILITY

  • 4-way adjustable handlebar
  • Wide 50mm footpegs can be adjusted 5mm lower than stock to lower the center of gravity and suit a range of riders

Kawasaki is committed towards paving the path to success, which includes providing class-leading comfort with an adjustable handlebar mounting system and footpegs to fit riders of all sizes and riding styles. The handlebars feature 4-way adjustable mounts. The multi-position handlebars offer two mounting holes with 35mm of adjustability, and the 180-degree offset clamps boast four individual setting to suit different size riders.

The footpegs feature dual-position mounting points, with a lower position that reduces height from the standard setting by an additional 5mm. The lower position effectively lowers the center of gravity when standing, and reduces knee angle when taller riders are seated.

2017 KX 450F
2017 KX 450F

The 2017 Kawasaki KX450F motorcycle can be customized to suit a large range of riders thanks to its flat seat design, adjustable handlebar and footpegs and fully adjustable suspension components.

This perfectly complements the wide range of damping settings as well as the DFI couplers and optional handheld KX FI Calibration Kit, allowing the rider to find the ideal engine characteristics to suit a particular track or conditions. While the base settings on the KX450F motorcycle are based on extensive testing, including racing, the motorcycle provides a huge range of technology and adjustment to help ensure every rider can fully exploit the incredible ability of this extremely capable motocross bike.

2017 MULE SX 4x4
2017 Mule SX 4×4

2017 Kawasaki Teryx and Teryx4 models

Assembled in Lincoln, Nebraska out of domestic and imported parts, the Teryx and Teryx4 side-by-sides are versatile enough to provide thrills for the whole family on the trails with standard Electric Power Steering (EPS), a 783cc V-twin engine combined with FOX Podium 2.0 suspension and rugged enough to help out with chores with plenty of torque and 1,300 pounds of towing capacity with a optional draw bar.

  • Powerful and versatile 783cc V-twin engine
  • Aggressive front-end styling
  • Sport suspension with Fox Podium 2.0 shocks
  • Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) with confidence inspired automatic engine braking performance
  • The Kawasaki Strong 3-Year Limited Warranty

The Teryx and Teryx4 side-by-sides are built strong to take playing hard to the next level. The aggressive front end styling and polished 14-inch cast aluminum wheels (LE models) join a roomy cockpit on the Double X frame to help you comfortably and confidently conquer the trails.

POWERTRAIN

With a 783cc engine that generates its power and torque in the low- and mid-range of the power band, the Teryx is very capable in any environment. The purpose-built 90-degree V-twin engine delivers great fuel efficiency, while also having enough torque and power to conquer the trail.

Transferring all that torque to the ground is a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) with a centrifugal clutch assembly, and a three-mode switch selectable four-wheel drive system that allows access to either 2WD (light steering, great handling), 4WD or 4WD + Front Differential Lock. The latter helps to provide optimum traction by simply rotating a dash-mounted switch.

The CVT provides a quick response and direct engine “feel” in sportier riding situations, and its unique engine braking ability increases driver confidence on descents, while turning and in a variety of conditions.

So whether carving on trails through the woods, carefully crawling up a rocky trail, or ripping through the open desert, the Teryx side-by-side has the ideal drivetrain mode to handle it.

ELECTRIC POWER STEERING

Precise steering with little effort is the hallmark of the standard Electric Power Steering (EPS) system in the 2017 Kawasaki Teryx side-by-side. The Showa-built system eliminates the need for a traditional power steering pump; so steering inputs do not rob the engine of power. In fact, the EPS is only active when the engine is running, so there’s also limited battery drain.

Input from vehicle speed and torque sensors determine the amount of steering assistance required, giving more during slow-speed use, and less as speed increases, similar to a state-of-the-art sports car. EPS offers additional benefits, especially on rough surfaces, where reduced steering kickback and bump-steer mean less fatigue for the driver.

All Teryx and Teryx4 models come standard with tilt steering column. It allows the steering wheel to be tilted to a position that suits the driver, or can be moved out of the way to ease cabin access. To reflect its sporty performance and handling, all Teryx models have received a thicker steering wheel. This is designed to be more comfortable in the driver’s hand, giving more confidence on trails and improving the overall feel of the driving experience.

CHASSIS

The durable Double-X frame construction of the Teryx4 side-by-side takes technical terrain in its stride. The rigid, square tube chassis effectively combats flex to help provide superior handling over rough ground.

This stout frame was designed using detailed computer analysis and plenty of off-road testing. It features two X-shaped crossmembers bridging the frame’s box structures from corner-to-corner to improve strength and durability.

Maneuvering on the trails is easily accomplished with the tight 16.7 ft turning radius, reducing the need for multi-point turns.

The Teryx and Teryx4 side-by-sides have underbody engine guards that help shield vital components by acting as a skid plate when traversing rough terrain.

This impressive chassis package is further enhanced with a wide-track/wide-body design, which contributes to superb handling characteristics. The wide track helps the driver maneuver during cornering and boosts the ability to navigate rough terrain. Mid-engine placement also helps by centralizing the vehicle’s center of mass, which reduces the turning inertia and promotes more fluid directionalchanges.

Large 26” Maxxis Bighorn 2.0 tires offer the type of ride comfort, control and traction you would expect from a Teryx4 side-by-side. Their construction and tread design helps maximize forward traction, while optimizing driver feedback for cornering.

The vehicle also offers a substantial 11.2” of ground clearance, helping to prevent it from high centering when cresting a ridge or obstacle. The high approach and departure angles (79- and 65-degrees, respectively) also reduce the possibility of catching the front bumper when approaching a steep slope, or scraping the rear when exiting.

SUSPENSION & BRAKING

The Teryx side-by-side incorporates one of the best names in the high-performance suspension business, FOX, for its four wheel independent suspension. The steel A-arms at all four corners are mated to adjustable FOX Podium 2.0 remote reservoir coilover shocks that offer 8” of plush travel up front and 8.3” out back, giving the Teryx side-by-side plenty of comfort on the trail.

Kawasaki engineers fitted the Teryx side-by-side with the ultimate high-performance FOX Podium 2.0 shocks, which are adjustable for spring preload and 24-way compression damping, to tailor the ride to the terrain or the rider’s preference.

The adjustable FOX Podium 2.0 coilover shocks provide everything from cruising comfort with four passengers and a full cargo bed on the Teryx4 to a sporty, more bump absorbing ride for a solo driver. Balancing comfort and performance, the FOX Podium 2.0 shocks maintain consistent, progressive and fade-free damping in all driving conditions.

Brake performance is essential for the Teryx side-by-sides and is delivered with high performance hydraulic disc brakes up in the front and a sealed internal wet brake in the rear. With 200mm rotors gripped by dual-piston calipers for exceptional feel and stopping power mounted up front, the brakes are recessed within the wheels to help keep them free from debris, while the sturdy steel-braided brake lines help keep a crisp, progressive pedal.

At the rear, Kawasaki employs its unique sealed internal wet brake, which features internal components that are completely sealed from the elements, providing a maintenance free braking performance whether descending hills or running on trails.

HAULING & TOWING

The Teryx and Teryx4 side-by-sides excel in all types of uses, from hauling family members or equipment to towing. The Teryx features a 27.6 x 43.3 inch cargo bed that is 10.4 inches deep and boasts a heavy-duty 600 lb payload capacity, while the Teryx4 has a 17.9 x 47.6 inch, 250 lb capacity cargo box that is 8.7 inches deep. The cargo bed has a flat bottom that can carry a large cooler or other supplies out on the trail.

The bed has KQR (Kawasaki Quick Release) rails with quick release capability, which allow for quick-mounting of Kawasaki Genuine Accessories and/or tools to the bed rails. Four tie-down loops also help secure the cargo.  The Teryx also features two rearstorage compartments with lids that offer 48 gallons of storage capacity

The vehicles feature a latching tailgate, which can be removed without requiring tools for greater capacity. The tailgate also features molded drink holders for added convenience.

A 2” hitch receiver is standard equipment. This allows the Teryx or Teryx4 side-by-side to tow up to a substantial 1,300 lb once equipped with the optional draw bar.

CONVENIENCE

Convenience features on the 2017 Kawasaki Teryx side-by-side include two DC power outlets (three on Teryx4, two up front and one in the rear) providing up to 120 watts of peak electrical power. Almost eight gallons of fuel capacity and impressive fuel economy meanboth the Teryx and Teryx4 have substantial range, enough for a long day out with your friends or family. There’s also a sun top to maximize comfort, which comes standard on the Teryx4 LE and Camo models, plus conveniently located beverage holders for each occupant.

The dashboard layout incorporates four accessory switch knockouts, allowing Teryx side-by-side owners to operate their chosen Kawasaki Genuine Accessories, such as a winch, auxiliary LED lighting, etc. The dashboard is also able to accommodate the Kawasaki Genuine Accessories audio system to provide music or news throughout the day. A number of convenient storage pockets were also incorporated into the new dash design to increase its utility.

STYLING

An aggressively styled front end includes a removable hood and scratch-resistant front bumper. Along with its angular fenders, the Teryx and Teryx4 side-by-sides have a look that says “sporty” and “functional” at the same time.

New lightweight polished 14” cast aluminum wheels on the Teryx and Teryx4 LE models add even more style to the overall appearance. The LE models also feature a strong tubular-steel front brush guard and four high-intensity LED headlamps that have two switches with both low and high beam, allowing you to light the trail as you like (four LED lights are also standard on Camo models).

Textured paint on the brush guards and ROPS cage help keep the vehicle looking sharp even after hard use.

INTERIOR AMENITIES

The Teryx and Teryx4 side-by-sides are two of the most comfortable vehicles in their class, meaning your family and friends will want to spend more time out on the trails.

The roomy interior gives the driver and passengers plenty of hip, shoulder and legroom. Three-tone high-backed bucket seats feature high-quality cushioning and cold-resistant seat material for all-day plushness. The high-back adjustable seats eliminate the need for a headrest and feature wraparound ergonomics to hold driver and passengers firmly in place. As a new feature, the driver’s seat can now be adjusted 50mm while in the seat, allowing different sized drivers to comfortably get behind the wheel. When the going gets rough, three-point seatbelts, help to keep the driver and passengers in place. Shock-absorbing comfort mounts and an anti-cinch feature on the seatbelts also help prevent over-tightening when the belts lock during sudden deceleration (or when the tilt sensor is activated). New for 2017, the Teryx and Teryx4 side by sides feature a speed limiter that keeps the vehicle from exceeding speeds of 15 miles per hour if the driver is not wearing a seatbelt.

All the Teryx side-by-side models feature premium factory-designed latching doors that are easy to use, look good and offer a high level of mud protection.

The instrumentation includes a multi-function electronic display that provides an array of useful information: speedometer, fuel gauge, odometer and hour meter, clock and dual trip meters. There are also indicator lights for the 2WD/4WD, front differential, parking brake, water temp and a fuel injection warning, plus a reverse indicator giving you the information you need at a glance.

THREE MODELS

Both the two-seat Teryx side by side and the four-seat Teryx4 side-by-side are available in three different levels of specification. All feature the same combination of a powerful, reliable engine, selectable four-wheel drive, durable, tough chassis, sporty suspension and all-round versatility and fun.

The base model for both are the Kawasaki Teryx side-by-side and the Kawasaki Teryx4 side-by-side, which are equipped with the advanced Electric Power Steering to help the ease steering at lowers speeds and reduce bump steer at on rough terrain. The basemodels are available in Super Black.

The Teryx LE and Teryx4 LE models incorporate everything on the base model, while adding lightweight 14” cast aluminum wheels for extra style. These wheels are fitted with 27 inch Maxxis Bighorn tires to give the driver confidence in cornering, outstanding performance in rough terrain and a more comfortable ride.

In addition, the Teryx LE and Teryx4 LE models boast four powerful LED headlights and a hard sun top to help protect the occupants from the elements. The 2017 Teryx LE can be purchased in Candy Matte Burnt Orange or Candy Lime Green paint, while the 2017 Teryx4 LE is available in Metallic Stardust White, Candy Matte Burnt Orange and Candy Lime Green.
