Dave Koshollek joins PSB as blogger

Dave “Dako” Koshollek joins Powersports Business today as a blogger. Koshollek was a presenter at the 2015 Powersports Business Institute @ AIMExpo in the Brick and Mortar Success Guide track. His presentations were “The Shop Success Formula” and “Hiring the Right Tech for the Right Job.” Strong feedback from dealers following those presentations led to him blogging for PSB.

Dako began his career in 1971 working as a mechanic/service manager in BMW, Harley, Honda, Triumph and Yamaha motorcycle shops across the country. In 1981 he left the dealership world to become the fifth technical trainer at the Motorcycle Mechanics Institute (MMI). There, he created MMI’s Harley-Davidson technical training programs and grew the department from a one-man operation teaching 12-students per day to expansive campuses in both Phoenix and Orlando that were graduating over 800-students per year. For 13 years he served as National Director of MMI’s Harley-Davidson programs, responsible for both the entry-level and dealer-level Harley-Davidson classes. In 1995 he shifted gears to become MMI’s Director of Special Programs where he developed their Two and Four-Stroke motorcycle performance programs and Dynojet dynamometer elective classes.

Following MMI, Dako accepted the position of Vice President of USA Motorcycle Sales at Dynojet Research; overseeing dyno, jet kit and fuel injection product sales. He was instrumental in placing dynamometers in motorcycle dealerships nationwide and in launching the first Power Commander EFI tuning product. In 1998, he started his own company, DAKO Management; providing sales and customer service excellence training for parts, service and motor gear employees working in dealerships, distributorships and manufacturers of the motorcycle industry.

Over the last 16 years, as a contract trainer for Harley-Davidson University (HDU) Dako has designed, created and taught HDU’s very successful P&A Sales, P&A Master Level Sales and Service Consultant Selling Techniques programs. Additionally, Dako has presented at Harley-Davidson Dealer Operations Training and annual Dealer Meetings on a wide range of topics including management, sales enhancement, risk aversion and customer service excellence. He has created intellectual content for 10-HDU online training programs and has written over 250-articles for Harley-Davidson’s ShopTalk publication, which is read by Harley-Davidson dealership personnel worldwide. In addition, Dako provides direct to dealer training.

Dako is a member of the American Motorcyclist Association, the Motorcycle Industry Council and the Harley Owners Group. His goal is to help dealerships work smarter, not harder so they can enjoy the rewards of a job well done in the industry that he loves.

Dako lives by the principle, “Ride Well — Be Profitable,” which applies to all things in life.
