Japanese OEMs increase production

Overall motorcycle production of the Big Four Japanese OEMs in December 2015 was recorded at 53,296 units. Compared with the 51,596 units total for the same month of the previous year, that’s an increase of 3.3 percent, or 1,700 units. This is the first increase in 11 months, according to data collected from the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA).

In the period of January to December 2015, overall motorcycle production was at 522,329 units. In comparison to the previous year’s 597,058 units, the OEMs saw a 12.5 decrease, or were down 74,729 units.

Overall motorcycle exports experienced a decrease in the final month of the year. The total number of exports for December was recorded at 46,909 units. In comparison to December 2014, with 47,211 units, export was down 0.6 percent, or 302 units. From January to December 2015, 417,649 motorcycles were exported. The previous year’s total was 465,584 units, meaning that there was a 10.3 percent decrease, or down 47,935 units.
