Polaris issues GEM recall

Polaris Industries, Inc. has issued a recall on select model year 2015 GEM vehicles after it was found that the seat belts in affected models have retractor mechanisms that may fail. This failure causes the belt to be stuck in one position and, if the seat belt does not retract or extend, the seat occupant may not be properly secured in event of a crash, increasing risk of injury.

Affected vehicles were manufactured December 15, 2014 to August 25, 2015. The recall includes model year 2015 GEM EL, ES, E4, E5, ELXD, E6, E65 and E2 units.

GEM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the seat belt assemblies, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin in December 2015. Owners may also contact the GEM Consumer Service Department at 855/743-3436. Polaris’ number for this recall is L-15-02.

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 888/327-4236 (TTY: 800/424-9153), or visit www.safecar.gov.
