Polaris plant gets Athens council approval

On Tuesday, Athens council members approved the city’s portion of the incentive package to the Huntsville-based Polaris manufacturing plant, according to an article on WTVM.com.

The new Polaris plant in Huntsville will build ATVs and is expected to create more than 2,000 jobs in the next 12 years. Athens Councilman Joseph Cannon shared that the council will pay $200,000 from the Athens general fund to the city of Huntsville over the next three years.

“We fight to bring these industries here so we can create jobs for our local citizens. We want these jobs to be staffed by local people,” said Councilman Chris Siebert.
