BRP recalls 25,000 Commanders for fire hazard

BRP has recalled about 25,000 Can-Am Commander side-by-sides for a fire hazard that has already led to one report of minor burns to someone’s hand.

Debris, such as leaves, hay and grass, can build up in the affected vehicles’ exhaust pipe areas in a short period of time, posing a risk of fire. BRP has received 18 reported of fires from accumulated debris in exhaust pipe areas.

The recall involves the 2011 and 2012 Commander 800R, 1000, XT 800R, XT 1000 and X 1000, as well as the 2012 Limited 1000, and the 2013 models without the front grill kit, including the 800R, 1000, XT 800R, XT 1000, X 1000, Limited 1000, DPS 800R and 1000.

BRP is contacting Commander consumers directly, and the owners are being asked to schedule a free update kit repair with their dealer.
