State of the Industry webinar available for viewing

The inaugural Powersports Business State of the Industry webinar, held Oct. 16 in conjunction with the release of the 2012 PSB Market Data Book, provided dealers and industry personnel with extensive insight into a variety of topics geared to helping their business perform better.

“We couldn’t be more pleased with the feedback we received from the attendees and those who have since viewed the webinar,” Powersports Business Senior Editor Dave McMahon said. “It’s pertinent information provided in an efficient manner — two likeable attributes for business owners and management. Dealers and members of other industry segments can expect us to host more of them in the coming year.”

The webinar, sponsored by ADP Lightspeed and MB Financial Bank, included presenters Jim Woodruff from National Powersport Auctions, Hal Ethington from ADP Lightspeed, Noel Lais from Spader Business Management and Mike Dixon from Polk.

Among the data offered from presenters:

  • Wholesale powersports prices usually rise 1-3 percent year-over-year as MSRP values rise, Woodruff said.
  • Tucker Rocky is the source for 36 percent of helmet sales for metric dealers and 12 percent for V-twin dealers, Ethington noted of the data taken from ADP Lightspeed dealers.
  • New inventories through September increased dramatically from 2011 to 2012, Lais noted of Spader dealers.
  • There was a noticeable spike in ATV registrations in the spring of 2012 to nearly 20,000 units registered, Dixon reported.
