NOHVCC releases statement regarding proposed tariffs

The National Off-Highway Vehicle Conservation Council released the following statement regarding the proposed tariffs that could negatively affect the powersports industry as a whole.

“Representatives from the Motorcycle Industry Council, American Motorcyclist Association, Polaris and KTM recently testified at a hearing before the U.S. International Trade Commission (USITC) in opposition to proposed tariffs of up to 100% on all parts, accessories and 500-700cc motorcycles imported from European Union (EU) countries.  The tariffs are a proposed response to a manufacturing dispute in the completely unrelated aircraft industry.  Now it is your turn to weigh in!

“Tariffs are essentially taxes on goods imported from other countries.  As it stands, the proposed tariffs would INCREASE the cost of any motorcycle between 500-700cc as well as any parts or accessories (for motorcycles and in many cases ATVs or ROVs) that are manufactured in and shipped from EU countries.  In fact, should a 100% tariff be imposed, the price of these products would DOUBLE.

“This would not only increase costs for powersports enthusiasts, it could force some recreationists to buy possibly inferior, but cheaper, products to fix or upgrade their machines.  But there is still time to impact the decision!
