Motorcycle show sees record number of classic bikes

Flashing red and blue lights and the wail of police motorcycle sirens welcomed guests to the spacious showroom of Boyertown’s Martin Moto on Friday evening, March 1st for the opening of the Ninth Annual Modern Classics Motorcycle Show. Fortunately no crime spree was under way. Rather, a display of police motorbikes was one of several special exhibits on the show floor.

In addition to law enforcement machines, the 1000+ Modern Classics guests roamed amid a collection of motorcycles from the historic year of 1969 and saw an assembly of machines that portrayed the rise of Japanese dirt bikes entitled“From Trail-Bikes to Supercross”. At its core, The Modern Classics is a show for the great machines of the 1960s through the 1990s. However, in tribute to the machines of an earlier time a new feature called “Heritage Corner” has been added. This year, the Heritage Corner featured motorcycles from long defunct, but fondly remembered brands like Rudge and Sunbeam. The highlight of the Heritage Corner was a perfectly restored 1939 American-built Crocker motorcycle – at the time the world’s fastest production machine and today one of the world’s most valuable collectibles.

Guests at both the Friday evening “Kickstart” Party and Saturday’s 9-5 festivities chose their four “People’s Choice” favorites from among the show’s record number of 113 entries, and the exhibitors themselves chose the winner of the prestigious Exhibitors’ Choice Award.
