Q2 dealer survey launches, with over 30 brands represented

Dealers from 22 states and two Canadian provinces completed the Q2 2018 Powersports Business/BMO Capital Markets Dealer Survey on its launch day Tuesday.

Dealers who have taken the survey so far sell the following brands: Aprilia, Arctic Cat, Benelli, Bintelli, Can-Am, CFMOTO, Ducati, E-Z-GO, GEM, Genuine Scooter, Hammerhead Off-Road, Harley-Davidson, Hisun, Honda, Husqvarna, Indian, Kawasaki, KTM, KYMCO, Mahindra Roxor, Norton, Piaggio, Polaris, Sea-Doo, Ski-Doo, Slingshot, SSR, Suzuki, Textron Off Road, Triumph, Ural, Vespa, Yamaha.

A total of 93 percent of the Day 1 survey takers operated single-location dealerships.

Showing the continued growth of the side-by-side market, here’s the breakdown of product segments offered by dealers who completed the survey:

Side-by-sides: 91 percent

Traditional ATVs: 97 percent

Heavyweight motorcycles: 64 percent

Sport bikes: 67 percent

Off-road bikes: 70 percent

PWC: 46 percent

Snowmobiles: 52 percent

Boats: 15 percent

New unit sales were reported as either good or very strong by 55 percent of the Day 1 respondents. Overall business conditions were reported as either good or very strong by 51 percent of respondents. Not surprisingly, 60 percent of Day 1 respondents said the U.S. political environment was an external risk factor that concerned them the most.
