Schaeffer’s Harley-Davidson co-founder dies

Dennis Schaeffer, the co-founder of Schaeffer’s Harley-Davidson of Orwigsburg, Pennsylvania, died Sept. 6 at the age of 71. Schaeffer and his parents opened their Harley-Davidson dealership on March 27, 1967, followed by a KTM and Can-Am dealership in 2014. 

His obituary details his involvement and passion for the powersports industry: “Throughout his 50 years in business, Dennis was recognized by various organizations including the Harley-Davidson Motor Co., the Better Business Bureau, the Schuylkill County Chamber of Commerce, the Northeast Manufacturers and Employers Association, Winter Carnival Distinguished Citizen Award, Bombardier Recreational Products, the Boy Scouts of America and many others. Dennis was a founding member of the Schuylkill County Motorcycle Club. … He was a charter lifetime member of the American Motorcyclist Association, and he received the 2006 AMA Road Rider of the Year Award. Dennis was also a lifetime member of the Harley Owners Group.”

A memorial ride for Schaeffer will take place Sept. 15, followed by a celebration of life service at the Schuylkill County Motorcycle Club. The service on the club grounds will begin approximately at 3 p.m. Riders will meet at Schaeffer’s Harley-Davidson from noon until 1 p.m., at which time the procession to the club grounds will begin.
