Report: Ducati 1199 Superleggera engine powers concept VW XL Sport

In a blog post titled “The Ducati-Powered VW XL Sport is a Slice of Ultralight Tw-Cylinder Awesomeness,” Car and Driver reports that the concept VW XL Sport, the newest, gas-powered version of the $120K plug-in hybrid XL1, has a Ducati-powered powerplant.

Ducati, as you know, is owned by Audi, a Volkswagen brand. The VW XL Sport, the Car and Driver blog reports, is powered by the Superquadro, a “two-cylinder taken straight from the Ducati 1199 Superleggera superbike. A stepdown transmission is employed to reduce engine speeds by a factor of 1.86 before output is routed through to the XL1′s seven-speed dual-clutch DSG automatic.”
