Harley-Davidson dealership in Florida closing
Harley-Davidson of St. Augustine in Florida will be giving up its franchise as of Jan. 31 and closing its doors in the next couple months.
Co-owners Clark Vitulli and Allen Good told The St. Augustine Record that the closure came in part because of the effects of the economy and an agreement with Harley-Davidson Motor Company.
“The decision to close was a tough one since many of our employees and customers are considered close friends,” Good told the newspaper. “We’ve had several offers to acquire the dealership over the years; however, after careful review of the cumulative effect the economy has had on the business, we decided to participate in Harley-Davidson Motor Company’s U.S. dealer consolidation program.”
Good and Vitulli purchased the dealership in August 2007, and each year since then, they have won The St. Augustine Record’s “Best of” award for top motorcycle dealership in the city. The dealership has also been awarded other industry honors.
Harley-Davidson of St. Augustine will discontinue its franchise at the end of this month, at which time the franchise for the area will be relinquished. The dealership will remain open for a couple more months to clear out its inventory of PG&A. Adamec Harley-Davidson in Jacksonville will take over the dealership’s Harley-Davidson retail store in downtown St. Augustine, and it will service the dealership’s prepaid maintenance customers and gift certificate holders.
