K&N offers loyalty program for dealers

Orders from Parts Unlimited/Drag Specialties earn points toward product

Dealers who have always felt the urge to add K&N products to their personal vehicles are now in luck. Through the end of April, K&N is offering a loyalty points program, which allows dealers to earn free K&N product for personal use, or to put on their shelves.

Johnny Jump, Powersports national sales manager for K&N, promoted the new High-Flow Points System at the Parts Unlimited/Drag Specialties NVP Product Expos in Atlanta and King of Prussia, Pa. Loyalty points can be earned only through K&N orders made through Parts Unlimited and Drag Specialties.

The program was designed as an incentive to get dealers to push K&N oil filters, air filters and intake systems throughout March and April.

“We have a lot of dealers who are buying and selling K&N product through demand from their consumers, and a lot of dealers are interested in having products for their personal vehicles. Instead of going to the local automotive retailer to buy products for their personal vehicles, they can now earn points to get free product for them,” Jump explained. “We have demand for automotive products, and we don’t sell automotive products [on the powersports side], but we wanted to kind of pat dealers on the back by offering these automotive products.”

To enter the program, dealers have to order $250 or more in shippable product. Dealers earn 10 points per oil filter, 80 points per air filter and 500 points per intake ordered through Parts Unlimited or Drag Specialties between Feb. 27 and April 29. On May 1, the points will be tallied, and dealers will receive product certificates to redeem for K&N products of their choice. A free Wrench-Off Oil Filter (80 points), High-Flow Air Filter (500 points) and Performance Intake System (2,500 points) can be earned for use on a car, truck, motorcycle, ATV or RV.

“If you focus on buying and selling K&N products, it’s very easy to accumulate a lot of points. The automotive intake systems from K&N are about $500 retail, and you can easily earn free $500 intake systems. And if you’re already buying and selling K&N, it makes it very easy,” Jump reported.

The High-Flow Points System is another step in K&N’s support of its powersports dealers. Recently, the brand also released the K&N Oil Filter Dispenser Display. A 2016 Powersports Business Nifty 50 Award winner, the slat-wall display has six rows that hold more than 36 Wrench-Off Oil Filters. An order of $500 or more allows dealers to order the POP.

“The Oil Filter Dispenser is designed to make it easier to locate the proper oil filter for oil-change consumers,” Jump said. “It’s designed to go behind the parts or service counter in plain sight, behind the cash register, so when a consumer comes up to the parts counter with four quarts of their favorite oil, and tells them what kind of bike he has … it makes it very easy for the parts manager to reach behind him and pull out the appropriate oil filter and supply it to the consumer. It also provides excellent signage for the brand at checkout.”

If dealers would prefer a countertop display, K&N offers one that holds up to six Wrench-Off Oil Filters or 12 performance cartridge oil filters. Dealers must order six or more oil filters to earn that display.

Jump says K&N is just as committed to the powersports segment as it was more than four decades ago, when it introduced the reusable high-flow cotton air filter to the motorcycle industry in the late 1960s.

“The powersports side is very important to not only the powersports community; K&N’s roots are in the powersports side,” he said.

Many powersports customers put their first K&N product on their powersports vehicle, but they soon add them to their cars, trucks, RVs and more, making the powersports industry an important business arm and marketing tool for K&N.

“If that consumer becomes a K&N fan for their motorcycle product, there’s a very, very strong chance that that same consumer is a very much do-it-yourself-type consumer, interested in performance, interested in long life and interested in the feature/benefits that K&N builds into its products to have in all of his family’s vehicles,” Jump said.

Dealers who order K&N products through Parts Unlimited or Drag Specialties through the end of April can earn points toward K&N oil filters, air filters and intake systems for their shelves or their personal vehicles.
