Kelley data shows UTV views continue to rise

Customer views on KBB.com trended similarly in the third quarter of 2012 as they did in the year-ago quarter, as customer views typically decline heading into the fall season.

An analysis of the Kelley Blue Book top 10 most researched ATVs and side-by-sides during the third quarter shows typical numbers, with the exception of ATVs under 400cc, in which customers showed significantly less interest then they did in Q3 2011.

The top 10 most researched ATVs are older vehicles than the most researched motorcycles. Nine of the top 20 vehicles are at least 10 years old, and the newest ATVs to make the Most Researched list are from the 2007 model year, according to Lisa Pelissier, senior analyst for Kelley Blue Book.

Honda held the top spot in the Over 400cc grouping for Q1 and Q2 2012, but in Q3 Polaris has overtaken Honda with two of its Sportsman models receiving more customer views than the previously leading Honda.

Honda did dominate the Under 400cc category, with six of the top 10 vehicles coming from its Rancher series.

UTVs still gaining steam
UTVs are the only segment to see vehicles with more customer views for Q3 than in Q2, suggestive of the explosiveness of the UTV market.

“Interest in this segment is growing instead of following the typical decline that comes during this time of year,” Pelissier said.
